Abstract

Stating a variety of geographical and natural conditions inside a small area of the Republic of Ingushetia, the author reviews its current mineral reserves as the most important source of sustainable ecological and economic development. The article informs on the explored and possible reserves of hydrocarbons, metals and nonmetals and water, their location in the territory of Ingushetia, rate of utilization and the degree of meeting the demands of the social and economic development in the Republic. A detail discussion covers the issues of depletion and deficit of the explored and operating reservoirs of hydrocarbons (oil and gas), considering short-term and long-term demand for them. Based on predictive estimates, the author points at new hydrocarbon-promising areas to be subject to additional appraisal, geological exploration and commercial development. The author gives details of location and reserves of various nometals in the territory of Ingushetia and the main ranges of their use. The reserves appraisal is made for surface and underground fresh water, its socures and location, degree of utilization and long-term availability as the most important natural source of drinking, domestic and industrial water supply. The author expresses concern on insufficient size and rate of geological exploration and development of new underground water sources in view of expectable expansion in water consumption, especially in arid regions of the Republic. The information on the reserves, location, value and social weight of mineral water inside Ingushetia is given. The measures offered toward stimulation of the research and geological exploration are aimed at the advance replenishment of mineral wealth of Ingushetia, as well as at development and efficient utilization of natural resources.
