Bokaro Steel Plant orders a 130-ton twin ladle furnace

Bokaro Steel Plant (SAIL - Steel Authority of India), located in Bokaro Steel City in the Indian state of Jharkhand, has placed an order with SMS group for the supply of a 130-ton twin ladle furnace. The order comprises the engineering and the turnkey supply, including erection and commissioning. The supply scope includes not only the mechanical equipment, the X-Pact^® electrical and automation package (level 1 and level 2) but also the civil engineering and building construction work. Commissioning is scheduled for summer 2018.

The twin ladle furnace allows to precisely control the chemical composition and temperature of the liquid steel and slag. The ladle furnace thus satisfies an important basic requirement for further process steps aimed at producing high-quality steel grades and it also functions as a buffer for the molten metal upstream of the remaining processing stations.

With this order, Bokaro Steel is the first company of the SAIL Group in India to install a twin ladle furnace from SMS group. Altogether, since the year 2000, SMS group has supplied around 170 ladle furnaces worldwide.
