SMS Meer. Shanxi Gaoyi Steel commissions two wire rod mills

Shanxi Gaoyi Steel has successfully commissioned two wire rod mills from SMS Meer, Germany. The lines were installed in the Xinjiang District, Shanxi Province, China. Despite the high capacity, the wire rod mills require a minimum of space. With the two single-strand lines, Shanxi Gaoyi can produce up to 1.5 million tons of wire rod per year. The company already had a wire rod outlet from SMS Meer in operation.

“Competition on the wire rod market in China is tough. We need more than a pure equipment supplier. With SMS Meer we have found a reliable and experienced partner who helps us to improve our products and processes. And that pays off in the long term,” says company owner Zhang Gaoyi.

The heart of the new lines is the eight-stand wire rod block that achieves a rolling speed of 105 millimeters per second and can roll wire rod dimensions from 6.5 millimeters to 16 millimeters. In addition, SMS Meer supplied shear groups, pinch roll units and loop laying head. The reheating furnaces heat billets with a cross-section of 165 x 165 millimeters and 9.5 meters in length. The capacity of the furnaces is in total 240 tons per hour for cold charging.

Shanxi Gaoyi Steel supplies the finished wire rod to the booming Chinese building industry.
