SMS Meer. Aluminium Laufen orders 32-/35-MN extrusion press

Aluminium Laufen from Liesberg, Switzerland, has placed an order with SMS Meer, Germany, for the supply of a 32-/35-MN short-stroke front-loading press. With the new press the company is expanding its manufacturing possibilities for aluminum round material and extruded profiles.

The new front-loading press will process billets with a diameter of 10 inches and billet lengths from 400 to 1400 millimeters. The press has a non-productive time of only 14.4 seconds, including burp cycle. The extrusion speeds range from 0.5 to 30 millimeters per second.

Exceptional features of the new extrusion press from SMS Meer include the precision guides of container and extrusion stem, the efficient hydraulic power packs and the movable shear, as well as the integration into the existing automation environment.

Commissioning is scheduled for the second quarter of 2014.
