Abstract

The research focuses on the assessment of brine concentration zones (inbursts of highpressure brines) in the Amu Darya syneclise. The research uses the integrated analysis of data on the Amu Darya syneclise. The research methods were the geological structure analysis, hydrogeological analysis, geochemical study and the comparative analysis. The patterns of brine concentrations were revealed in three basic water-bearing strata: Sharaplinsky, Yolotansky and Sakarsky. The results make it possible to predict risk in drilling. An early forecast enables: preparation of actions to prevent ejection and absorption of drilling mud; correct selection of well design and drilling mud parameters; reduction of unproductive downtime and consumption of materials; higher safety—recognition of geological risks ensures the required level of production safety during drilling. The recommendations are developed for drilling in brine concentration zones. The studies involved the analyses of brine concentration occurrences, abnormally high formation pressures, chemical compositions and water content. On the basis of the data analysis, the brine concentration prediction criteria are developed: structure–depth criterion, facies–lithology criterion, hydrogeological and tectonic criteria. The resultant patterns can be used for predicting potential brine concentration in the entire region and on its individual sites. The obtained information provides more profound understanding of the geological structure in the region, and allows revealing potential zones of hydrocarbon concentration, which is important for the further production and use of these resources. This research provided a deeper insight into the nature of brine formations and made it possible to develop the most efficient methods for recovery and processing of brines.
