Patriarch Cyril, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, visited NRNU MEPhI on 4 March, 2010 and conducted the consecration rite of a small church in the honor of the Smolensk Mother of God, located in the main building of the university. He also donated the Kazan Icon of Mother of God to the church.
