Greece based aluminum producer ElvalHalcor orders aluminum hot rolling mill from SMS group

ElvalHalcor S.A., the newly merged business of Elval Hellenic Aluminium Industry S.A. and Halcor Metal Works S.A., Greece, will boost its output of prime aluminum flat rolled products.

The company which belongs to the Belgium-based Viohalco holding awarded the German SMS group GmbH with an order to supply a new four-stand aluminum tandem hot finishing mill for its Oinofyta plant near Athens. This investment allows for the increase of ElvalHalcor’s current presence in aluminum packaging, industrial, transportation and architectural applications and sets the base for expansion in the automotive and aerospace sectors.

The new mill will be arranged downstream an existing reversing mill which will be upgraded and serve as a roughing and plate rolling mill in future. All four mill stands of the new finishing mill will be equipped with CVC®plus technology, providing flexibility to handle a demanding mix of upmarket products. The high strip quality will be ensured by the X-Pact® automation and control system.

The future spectrum of hot rolled strips will range from 1.8 to 12.7 millimeters in thickness and up to 2.6 meters in width, hence securing ElvalHalcor its edge as one of Europe’s top producers of wide aluminum sheet.

Start of production of the new hot rolling line will be in 2020.
