The basic elements of ventilation in development headings are booster fans (BF) and ventiducts constituting ventilation network (VN). Modeling of BF–VN system and automated ventilation control in a tunnel requires data on aerodynamic properties of VN (calculated at the design stage or directly measured in mines) and BF (preset by a manufacturer and provided in graph form). The problem lies in the adequate approximation of the characteristic curves of BF (fan delivery, energy input, etc.). This study performs the approximation using programs AutoCAD and Eureqa Pro. The interpretation results are presented for a few types of BF. The presented approximations of aerodynamic performance of BF feature very high value of correlation ratio. The authors have developed a program to model operating modes of BF. The program allows visualization of calculation results and enables solving inverse problem on finding BF delivery and VN depression based on energy input value. The automated ventilation control in development headings will considerably enhance gas safety of mines.
