Abstract

The manufacturability of experimental alloy AZN0.5F (economically alloyed nikalyn) during casting, rolling and welding has been studied. It was shown that this alloy allows to obtain the flat-shaped ingots and rolled semiproducts (particularly thin sheets, up to 0.17 mm) from them. Alloy AZN0.5F is suitable for shaped castings produced by the method of rapid prototyping. The morphology of eutectic particles Al9FeNi in castings produced by this method is rather dispersive. That fact assumes a high level of mechanical properties of casting after heat treatment. New alloy is also suitable for argonarc welding providing a high quality of welded joints. According to the totality of computed and experimental data, we conclude that alloy AZN0.5F based on the eutectic (Al)+Al9FeNi is a promising material for producing of important parts. It has the improved combination of mechanical properties, manufacturability, and cost. This alloy may be recommended for replacement of existing high-strength aluminium alloys used in aircraft industry: wrought of the AA7075/7055 type and casting of AA224/201 type.
