The paper describes the possibility of treatment of refractories with different composition by copper and nickel mattes. The authors determine the physico-mechanical properties of refractories, optimal time of treatment at operating temperature of converter, technology of treatment of refractory products, and their annealing under industrial conditions. Purpose of the work is reduction of thermal stresses in the refractory products used in lining lance of tuyere belt of horizontal copper-nickel converters. According to the results of research and design work it was founded that refractory zone, impregnated with slag-matte melt, and its permanent zone have different physical, mechanical and thermophysical properties, which leads to stresses on the boundary of these zones, exceeding the strength of refractory products. The technology of refractories treatment with various mattes is developed for zoning liquidation of refractories during exploitation and properties of impregnated products are defined. Technology of impregnating of standard groove products in industrial conditions of Ufaley nickel combine is developed and tested. The use of impregnation allows to increase the resistance of tuyere belt.
