Abstract Comparative thermodynamic analysis of sulphur production technologies from acid hydrogen sulfide-containing gases (Clauss process) and sulfur dioxide gas containing sulphur oxide is realized; common features are defined, characteristic differences of reduction technology of oxygen-containing sulphuric gas by methane. The principally new results received at LTD “Gipronickel Institute” and developments having major importance not only for sulphur production technology from metallurgical sulphuric gases containing sulphur dioxide but for Clauss processing of sulphuretted hydrogen (H2S), used on plants of gas- and petroleum processing are presented.
