Abstract The waelz-process is more widespread technology for handling of residual portion from neutral leaching of zinc production and dust of electric arc furnaces. The waelz-process in large-sized waelz-kiln has been developed and installed at OJSC «Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant», main trends of waelz-process development (charge preparation, non-traditional reagent usage, heat salvage in a waste-heat boiler, deletion of halogenides from waelz-oxide) are listed. The dust of electric arc furnaces is alternative source for zinc plants, it can widen their raw material resource base.
