The history of world-known “Orlov” and “Shah” diamonds and a very rare portrait stone with underlaid picture of Emperor Alexander I has been considered. All of these stones have been founded several centuries ago in Golkonda mine in India and have been kept in the Diamond Fund. Since the discovery of reach diamondbearing fields in Russia at the middle of XX century, the collection has been replenished by unique stones of modern mining. The largest of them is the “XXVI congress of the CPSU” diamond. It weights 342,57 carates.
