Abstract
The results of research and expertize of jewelleries and coins, produced from platinum alloys, with methods of X-ray fluorescence analysis and hydrostatic weighing have been presented. The data about composition, homogeneity and density of platinum alloys are obtained. It has been established that platinum content in the examined Russian coins of Nickolas I period made 96-99% (mass.), while the main additive impurities are Ir (up to 2%), Fe (up to 2%), Cu (up to 0.5%), Rh and Pd (~0.1%). Alloy density of these coins constitutes 19.3-21.2 g/cm3. It is concluded about possibility of usage of the a.m. methods in the expertise of authenticity of the coins and other products.
