Abstract
This article reports about the history of discovering of beryllium as the element, first attempts of obtaining of this metal in technological scale, successes and failures, encountered on the way of industrial development. It has been shown how tireless work for mastering of new technologies and painstaking work of plant employees adduce enterprise to the word level. History of foundation of beryllium production in the USSR and Ust-Kamenogorsk in particular has been described step by step by the authors.
