Abstract

This paper describes some important historic moments, as well as scientific achievements, that contributed to the streamlining of minerals concentration and processing technology. The historic development of minerals concentration and processing industry is closely related to the history of the Russian Academy of Sciences, starting from the moment the latter was founded. Members of the Academy made a significant contribution to the development of concentration and processing techniques, equipment and technology applicable to mineral raw materials of various compositions. This helped make mining companies more efficient and contributed to the economic growth and the technological development of the country. With further advances in technology and progress in science, novel techniques of and approaches to mine rals concentration are becoming more accurate, efficient and environmentally friendly. An important aspect of research efforts includes support in resolving environmental issues faced by the mining industry through the development of cleaner, environmentally safer and more efficient technologies. Conside ring current challenges related to climate change and sustainable development, understanding and developing technical solutions for minerals concentration and processing remain a priority problem for research community.
The authors of this paper would like to thank I. M. Petrov for the provision of important historical materials.
