The article presents the nomenclature of exploration drill pipes with welded tool joints manufactured at the ZBO Drill Industries, Inc. (Orenburg). Design features of the weld zone are shown. The operational loads acting on the drill pipe during operation are analyzed. On the example of studies of the welded joint of steels 32-2-Mn with 40-Cr–Ni, the characteristic features of the structure of the thermomechanical affected zone (TMAZ) formed during the rotary friction welding (RFW) are presented. The factors influencing the change in the structure of the TMAZ and the mechanical properties of welded joints are shown. Positive experience has been gained from operating a drill pipe string with this combination of steels. The main directions of further research of welded joints of geological prospecting drill pipes of increased strength, made by the RFW method, are outlined.
The work was carried out as part of a grant in the fi eld of scientific and scientific-technical activities of the Government of the Orenburg region on the topic “Study of the patterns of formation of welded joints of drill pipes in order to increase their reliability”, agreement No. 15 of 08/14/2019.
