Efficient cutting of metals requires a hard, strong and heat resistant cutting tool. The works of foreign and Russian researchers analyzed the tool reliability (failure before the end of the durability period), the distribution of energy supplied to the cutting system and spent on plastic deformation of the cut layer, as well as the operational capabilities of new domestic carbide-tipped plates and the causes of their increased wear. A review of the used methods of mathematical modeling of processes with large deformations and displacements over significant distances of parts of an initially unified zone is given. We explained the use of the 3D design software SolidWorks Simulation for stresses modeling in the assembly tool body including the threaded tool holder with its trihedral thread plate with the standard geometry of the VOK-60 cutting ceramics, which was mechanically fixed in the holder, for the purpose of analytical determination of the maximum permissible (“Breaking”) feeds to the incision of the tool into the body of a high-strength billet. To carry out the simulation, we prepared a three-dimensional model for the use of cutting forces, based on the simulation of our results, the displacement (stretching) of the front surface. A specific case of modeling of buttress threading with 2 mm step on viscous steel detail with u = 950 MРa has a voltage value of about 5500 MPa and higher (with a layer thickness cut by a top blade of 0.22 mm) which exceeds the permissible values. In numerical experiments with increasing plunging, the voltage decreases and the feed can be increased. A solution is offered and patented that in order to reduce the negative influence of the bending moment on the strength of the plate, it is advisable to reduce the moment of action of the cutting force by introducing an additional hardening chamfer on the back surface with a negative angle at the vertex. Analysis of the test results shows that the values of the breaking feeds for the plates of the offered geometry at all depths of the preliminary incision are greater than the one for the plates with a standard geometry of 1.7–1.6 times, and this is most pronounced at smaller depths of the thread profile.

The results of the research project are published with the financial support of Tula State University within the framework of the scientific project No. 8701.
