Abstract

This paper investigates the gold-carbon systems, where gold is deposited on carbonic material by various methods. Activated carbon fibers, graphite, carbon nanotube massif and graphitic shale are used as substrates. Gold is deposited on carbon fiber from aurichlorohydric acid solutions by electrochemical method using fiber as electrode (with chitosan), and by adsorption from solutions. Besides, substrate (graphite, carbon nanotubes, shale) are saturated by applying the drop of solution on carbonic material surface. Gold is deposited in the conditions of reducing sorption with formation of gold crystalline aggregates, single crystals and thin-plate-formed spherical particles on substrate surface. Gold particle size reaches several tens of micrometers. Microwave heating of gold-covered carbon fiber leads to transformation of carbon fiber surface and gold smelting. At the same time, gold particles burn the carbon fibers, because they have more loose structure (turbostratic structure) than graphite. Electron-microscopic investigation of obtained materials and definition of elemental composition of deposited gold particles applied the scanning electron microscopes JSM-6490LV and TESCAN MIRA 3 LMU, equipped by electron probe microanalysis systems.
