Standard tests of waste copper slag (JSC “Svyatogor”), used as fine filler for building materials, were carried out at the laboratory of the Chair “Technology of binding materials and construction products” of Ural Federal University. The slag meets all normative requirements for waste products of ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, used for highways building. Waste cooper slag grain fineness corresponds to the group of large sands. The slag has stable structure against silicate and magnetite decays, but has no metal contamination. It can be used for road building without restrictions. Application of this slag in concrete and solutions manufacturing is limited, because its grain fineness does not meet the normative requirements. Copper slag has high particle density (more than 3000 kg/m3) and low water requirements. Practically, required specific water discharge for watering of slag particles surface (water requirements) is two times less, than for natural quartz sand of similar size. All other things being equal, it contributes to increasing of concrete composite strength, containing this slag as a filler. However, it has a negative impact on composite formability conditions. Preliminary fractioning of waste copper slags and its use in small amounts in composition of combined sands is recommended for manufacturing of concretes, melts and dry building materials.
