Abstract

The state of economy of the CIS countries by the end of 2012 was analyzed on the basis of the data of Interstate Statistical Committee of the CIS, national statistical services of the CIS countries, materials of the Bulletin of Foreign Commercial Information and industrial publications. The data on the status of non-ferrous metallurgy in mining and metallurgical complex of the CIS are given both in the whole of the CIS, and in terms of individual countries of the CIS. The share of metal products and finished metal products in 2012 for the CIS was rather significant in the total volume of industrial production: ~20% in Ukraine, 16% in Armenia, ~12% in Kazakhstan and Russia, ~9–10% in Uzbekistan, 8–9% in Tajikistan and 7% in Belarus. The following activities were observed in production of basic nonferrous metals in CIS countries in 2012:
— a slight growth (~1%) of primary aluminum output to 4.8 mln t;
— saving of level of refined copper and zinc, reached in 2011;
— output reduction to 5% of nickel and ~9% of lead.
Non-ferrous metallurgy enterprises occupy a notable place in economy of almost all CIS countries, except Belarus and Moldova. Nowadays, there are discussed the plans for creation of non-ferrous metallurgy enterprises in Turkmenistan. This segment of industry in Russia includes more than 500 enterprises, connected with ore extraction, its processing and production of non-ferrous, noble and rare metals, as well as a wide range of rolled products on their basis. Condition of this segment of industry generally corresponds to global tendencies.
